EcoCAR Challenge Committee Selects Greenough Communications as Agency of Record
Greenough’s clean/green expertise and creative execution best 27 agencies nationwide
BOSTON (January 21, 2009) Greenough Communications, a leading independent public relations firm with offices in Boston and Silicon Valley, has been named agency of record for EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), General Motors (GM) and more than 15 other contributors, EcoCAR is an elite vehicle engineering competition that challenges 17 universities across the U.S. and Canada to redesign and reengineer the 2009 Saturn VUE to minimize energy consumption and reduce emissions.
“From a field of more than 27 agencies, we looked for an agency with expertise in green technology and a proven record of success executing creative national media relations and marketing campaigns,” said Kimberly DeClark of EcoCAR. “Greenough’s knowledge of the trends and influencers defining today’s greentech conversations will help us tell compelling stories that benefit each of our sponsors and, of course, the EcoCAR teams.”
For the three-year competition (2008-2011), students will use a real-world engineering process modeled after GM’s Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) to reengineer a 2009 Saturn VUE. Greenough will use traditional media, social media and events to create awareness of how the competition, its sponsors and its participants can influence the energy and carbon emissions agenda. Additional sponsors include: The Government of Canada, A123 Systems, dSPACE, National Instruments, The MathWorks, Freescale Semiconductor, AVL Powertrain Engineering, The National Science Foundation, MotoTron Corporation, Sensors Inc., SnapOn Inc., Renewable Fuels Association, GM Foundation, Delphi Foundation, EcoMotors, CarSim by Mechanical Stimulation, Siemens PLM, Robert Bosch LLC and Women In the Winners Circle Foundation.
“EcoCAR unites policy leaders in Washington, automakers in Detroit and an array of businesses across North America dedicated to changing the future of the auto industry and our environment by harnessing the creativity and entrepreneurial energy of the best young engineering minds,” said Phil Greenough, founder and CEO of Greenough Communications. “For our agency, EcoCAR isn’t just another engagement, it’s an important part of our transformation into a greentech economy, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
Greenough’s recent green experience includes engagements with GEO2 Technologies, The MIT Energy Conference, World Energy, Advanced Electron Beams, EnerNoc, and TRIRIGA, among others.
